Cape Town's top spots to enjoy dinner and a show

Cape Town’s diverse restaurant and entertainment offering can be slightly overwhelming for first time visitors to the Mother City. With this in mind, we bring you our top three dinner theatres in Cape Town, all of which allow you to combine the joy of fine dining with appreciating the local arts.

Gold Restaurant

Gold is a one-of-a-kind African restaurant in the heart of Cape Town. Known for its opulent cuisine, their set 14 course Cape Malay and African menu (which changes seasonally) is a taste safari that transports guests from Table Mountain to Timbuktu. As if that’s not exciting enough, this culinary experience is complemented by unique interactive traditional performances, leaving guests entertained and begging for more. A definite ‘must’ for those who are hungry to experience what true African culture tastes, looks and sounds like.

This comfy nook puts on the long-running interactive musical Kaapse Stories from the Mother City three days a week, with a hearty portion of Cape Malay cuisine accompanying each performance. The four-course menu features everything from breyani to boerekos and comes capped with a welcome drink and devilishly sweet treats (think koeksisters, melktert and malva pudding). Guests will not be disappointed by the melting pot of colourful characters, soulful harmonies and delicious Kaapse kos. Book through Computicket or call the venue directly.

Alexander Bar & Café

Nestled in the heart of the city bowl, this elegant bar, café and theatre rolled into one was created by playwright Nicholas Spagnoletti and software engineer Edward van Kuik. They set out to provide Cape Town with a unique new space for conversation and creativity and their bustling restaurant and packed Upstairs theatre are evidence that they are most certainly succeeding! The old-world charm and vintage décor is furthe testimony of their desire to create something extraordinary, taking guests to a different (almost forgotten) era.

Performances in the studio theatre space include comedy acts, music, magic shows, as well as more straight theatre pieces.
